Biolocator
At the most fundamental level biospecimens are at the core in discovery-oriented scientific research. Our Biolocator is an innovative way to facilitate the finding and sharing of biospecimens for research and the advancement of science, without compromising biospecimen integrity or use.
5AM’s Biolocator is a web based software product that allows disparate biobanks to be linked together to provide a single de-identifed view of biospecimens. This software has been developed to manage all information, from specimen detail to ordering and shipping. All specimen data is centrally located to ensure fast and secure search response times, while the specimens themselves remain at their original source. Role based security allows users to have access only to defined areas. It has a comprehensive audit trail of all activities for security purpose.
For researchers, the system represents information about available biospecimens in a consistent manner to allow researchers to use the web to browse and query for biospecimens. For facilities, Biolocator provides the ability to review and manage biospecimen requests, configure approved orders, track shipments, and view researcher responses to the biospecimens they have received.
We’ve customized solutions for the Arizona Biomedical Research Commission (ABRC) and the National Foundation for Cancer Research (NFCR).

Family Health History & Personal Health Records
5AM Solutions offers a tool that advances the standardized collection of family health information for the use of patients, individuals at high risk for genetic and common diseases, clinicians and, by extension, the PHR and EHR systems that they rely on.
5AM developed the Surgeon General’s My Family Health Portrait, an open source, standards-based web solution for tracking a person’s family health history – one of the common indicators of disease risk. We can customize the tool to integrate and interact with EMRs, nonprofits, PHRs, and risk assessment tools.
We’ve built a web service to store the HL7 Family History model (the standard that underlies the tool) into the Microsoft HealthVault PHR, and have built a colorectal cancer risk assessment web service and a BRCAPro web service that integrate with the tool to provide additional risk assessment functionality.
Family Helix
5AM Solutions also supports Family Helix, a nonprofit organization that promotes awareness, communication, collaboration, and use of family health history to impact scientific research, medical treatment, and patient health. It does this in two ways, by providing a secure, easy-to-use online tool for people to track
their family's health, and by providing a community forum for medical professionals, geneticists, researchers, and others who are interested in the issue of family health history.
Contact us to discuss your interest in Family Health History & Personal Health Records. We’re happy to share our expertise in developing or customizing personal health record systems using standards to promote flexibility and interoperability.
